Cassandre born on January 24, 1901 in Kharkov (Ukraine) and died on June 17, 1968 in Paris, is a French graphic designer, poster designer, theater decorator, lithographer, painter and typographer1.

He is mainly known for his famous posters advertising the railways, such as the Étoile du Nord, the Dubonnet drink, the liner Normandie, and for the typographic typefaces he created in the 1930s. He created the Yves Saint Laurent brand logo in 1961 at the request of Pierre Bergé.
